On Sunday afternoon, January 5, President Joseph Biden signed into law the "Social Security Fairness Act," legislation to provide retired public employees, including Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) annuitants, full Social Security benefits. These impacted retired public employees include many retired postal supervisors, manages and postmasters. The government pension (GPO) and windfall elimination provision (WEP) denied many public sector retirees a significant retirement income stream to which they would be otherwise entitled.
On hand at the bill signing were NAPS President Ivan Butts, Executive Vice President Chuck Mulidore, Secretary Treasurer Jimmy Warden, and Legislative and Political Director Bob Levi. Legislation to repeal the GPO and WEP has been a NAPS legislative priority for as long as the provisions have been in effect. The NAPS officers personally thanked President Biden and the members of Congress present at the White House, who carried the bill over the finish line.
