NAPS urgently calls upon its members, members of their family, and neighbors and businesses within their community to contact their two U.S. Senators and their Representative to urge their support for emergency assistance to the Postal Service. Support from members of the Senate is crucial.
For your convenience, a sample letter is available here. Because this message is time-sensitive, we urge you to email the letter. We are providing a link to Senate and House of Representative contact information.
Why the urgent need for this message now? Because the COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc on postal volume and revenue and leaves the future of the U.S. Postal Service as we know it in doubt. Postmaster General Brennan recently warned Congress that the Postal Service will run out of cash by September 30 without emergency assistance from Congress and the White House. COVID-19 will cause a $13 billion revenue loss for fiscal year 2020. The Postal Service is in dire need of three things: $25 billion in emergency appropriations; another $25 billion in additional borrowing authority; and forgiveness of past debt.
Without relief, America’s essential and universal lifeline to its citizens through the Postal Service will be irrevocably damaged. This will be especially harmful to senior citizens, small businesses and rural communities. Meanwhile, the White House continues to pressure influential Senators to reject any substantive postal assistance, inviting postal inevitable insolvency and privatization.
Without your strong advocacy this could very well happen. Contact your Senators and Representatives today.
